Tracking is changing drastically. Browser prevention, cookie consent, ad blockers, and privacy-first tracking are changing how we will get activity data.
The answer to that is not weird approaches to mimic the old world with new mechanisms like fingerprinting.
Let us broaden our views and respect the userโs decision on what should be tracked.
๐ – The standard frontend tracking – When users give consent, we keep the implemented way to track the activities
๐งโ๐ญ – Server-Side tracking – Additionally, we will track events that happen on the server, so we get a second layer of information (without user information when there is no consent)
๐ง๐ปโ๐ – Session-based privacy-focused – When there is no consent, we only track data on a session-based without any user information. This enables us for a simple marketing attribution but keeps the user anonymous.
The interesting part comes when analyzing the data. Which layer do I use for which report? This will take some time and effort to find proper ways.
