😞 Definitely not by becoming a dashboard factory or by offloading everything and call it self-service.
Here’s my current take – and I know it has some buzzwords into it but please try to give it some thoughts:
🦄 Setup the data team as an internal startup. What does that mean? Well, we apply typical startup measures to it.
#1 Find product/market fit and develop a “business model”
Read the lean startup and go out to find your product/market fit and define your internal business model.
🧑🏻🚀 a lot of customer interviews. Invest the time and speak about their problems that could potentially resolved with data
👥 Shadow them – sit in the team for 1-2 weeks and see what their challenges are
🎰 Identify your initial niche and which services/products would help most to solve the problems in this niche
🎪 Build a Minimal valuable data product and test it with your niche group
🐡 Validate using Superhuman’s Product/Market fit model
🐊 Expand from there – Build, Measure, Learn
